PFSLib – An I/O Interface for Parallel Programming Environments on Coupled Workstations

In this paper we discuss the design and implementation of an I/O interface for parallel programming environments on clusters of workstations. The PFSLib library offers the functionality of Intel’s parallel file system PFS and is intended to be used for parallel applications using PVM or other messagepassing libraries for workstation clusters. An example of a simple parallel matrix-vector-multiplication shows how PFSLib function calls are used together with PVM.
